1956 – The start

Morris Albert Kaiserman was born inside a family very much in love with arts and music. 

At almost six years old, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, aunt and uncle brought him with his cousins to watch “Around the world in 80 days”. We can assume that the little kid got very impressed with the movie, especially with the main theme he heard on the screen. Once back home, he picks up the key for the piano from a drawer somewhere and tries to play the melody he heard while in the movie theater that same afternoon. From that moment on, the piano remained open, and his parents started contacting piano teachers so he could have private lessons.

The young boy learns pretty fast and between the ages of 11 and 12, starts falling in love with bossa nova and some jazz, a winning mix of sounds that will embrace him and become part of his music forever.

In the sixties, sometimes, going back home from Ipanema Beach, he would stop by “Bar do Veloso”, known to be the place where the song “Garota de Ipanema” was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius De Moraes.

Due to the success of their song, the place changed its name to “Bar Garota de Ipanema”, where important artists such as Baden Powell, Carlos Lyra, Toquinho, etc., used to share music almost every day.

Enjoying and paying attention to these artists, the young Morris decides to take on guitar playing. Still, during those years, he hears the Beatles for the first time and from that day on, music becomes his main interest in life.

His love for the Beatles makes him ask his father to give him a guitar like the one George Harrison used, a black Gretsch.

But his Dad, by mistake, brings him from London a Rickenbacker like the one used by John Lennon, and not black, but blue!

After his initial disappointment, Morris understands the value of his dad’s gifts and begins to feel the need to find friends he could share his passion for music.
